Pamphlet 1 – Understanding and Maximizing Medicare
This is war!
Present and future Medicare beneficiaries face a hostile and regressive Congress hell bent on changing the current program to further financially benefit private insurance companies, large multi-national pharmaceutical firms, and hospital corporations. Scrapping the present Medicare program and placing it in the hands of “big business” is simply put—wrong.
How do we fight this war?
The way to win this war is to educate the uneducated and the undereducated about Medicare. Sometimes the truth hurts. You’re going to hear a lot of it in this pamphlet, and those to follow. For one example, health care is an “industry”, and to grow, industries require profits. How does feel to be a small cog in a large industry?
We created this pamphlet, first in a series, to electrify our readers. We want you up and out of your seat! We want you up and out of your seat doing something…anything to help preserve and expand Medicare. We want you to be as informed and knowledgeable (if not more so!) than any member of Congress.
In plain English, this pamphlet offers:
- A beginning chat about how Medicare can work for all Americans
- Actionable information on enrolling in Medicare which is like trying to get the letters out of alphabet soup and then making sense of them
- Some practical stuff like enrolling and who runs Medicare and enrollment penalties and…
- Background on the clash between the philosophies of Republicans and Democrats about health careAll this is brought to you by a professional who spent years in the Medicare and Medicaid HMO Industry and her writing partner, a complete novice who’s confused just like you.

Pamphlet 2 – Parts A & B; Stuff You Wish You Knew
Waging war requires organization, attention to details, and unexpected allies. In the case of Pamphlet 2- Stuff You Wish You Knew, the Authors were able to achieve all three. We found an unexpected ally in our dedication to Medicare For All in President Teddy Roosevelt who promoted the idea in the 1912 platform for the Bull Moose Party. He, too, had given up on the regressive Republican Party. There is absolutely no way to organize your Medicare “stuff” unless you pay attention to lots of details. And this pamphlet is full of details.
In “plain English”, here’s a short list of what you get in this second pamphlet:
-
- You’ll discover Original Medicare is not so “Original” anymore
-
- You’ll discover Part B Premiums are going up which pits new Medicare enrollees against those lucky already enrolled Medicare enrollees who have the lower premiums
-
- You’ll discover Original Medicare is really only for the very poor or super rich
-
- You’ll discover Medigap is really just insurance on insurance
-
- You’ll discover Medigap requires mental gymnastics to understand terms such as pre-existing conditions, trial period, guaranteed issue, deductibles, lifetime reserve days
-
- You’ll discover Medigap has its own alphabet soup of choices A…B…C…
-
-
- As the years pass Medicare recipients are faced with more and more ‘skin in the game’; in “plain English” that means you pay more money for less. If you’re feeling lucky OR you have a lot of money, you may feel that “Original Medicare” is plenty of coverage. If the odds are against you, you may want to buy that insurance on insurance.

Pamphlet 3 – Medicare Advantage How to Choose
Waging war requires a lot of behind the scenes research and a steadfast determination. The authors were truly surprised to find our allies for this pamphlet in former President Nixon and his aide John D. Erhlichman who launched Medicare HMO in its earliest form. In the case of Pamphlet 3, the Authors spent an amazing amount of time researching and revisiting government sites, healthcare blogs and private health insurance company websites to make sure we provide you, the reader, the most up-to-date information available.
Acquiring powerful knowledge requires a deep dive, resulting in pamphlet 3 approaching 100 pages in length. Health care is complicated. Medicare Advantage insurance options are even more so.
There is absolutely no way to understand Medicare Advantage insurance choices unless you pay attention to lots of details. And this pamphlet is full of details.
In “plain English”, here’s a short list of what you get in this third pamphlet:
-
- You’ll learn on the whole that Medicare Advantage plans (HMO, PPO, PFFS) are less expensive than Medigap plans.
-
- You’ll learn that the majority of Health Insurance Corporations offering Medicare Advantage HMO plans have at least one without a premium.
-
- You’ll learn Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans almost always include an option that has the part D drug coverage at no additional premium.
-
- You’ll learn much more by reading the pamphlet in its entirety.
-
-
- Writing this pamphlet has made the authors unable to understand how it is “ok” with one of our representatives to Congress that Medicare recipients should have “more skin (money) in the game.” Said Medicare recipients already have plenty of “skin in the game”.
-
-
-
- And, by the way, healthcare is NOT a game.

Pamphlet 4 – Part D Drug Coverage
Medicare Wars Pamphlet – Part D Drug Coverage
Pamphlet number 4, on the Part D Drug Coverage, was the hardest and most complicated to write. It took the authors an entire month longer to research and compile than previous pamphlets:
-
- Medicare Wars Pamphlet 1 A Radical New Approach
-
- Medicare Wars Pamphlet 2 Parts A and B
-
- Medicare Wars Pamphlet 3 Medicare Advantage
We knew preparing our readers to wade into the Medicare battle would be sort of like boot camp preparing for war.
Even if you ARE paying close attention and reading these pamphlets we guarantee you will not have a complete understanding of Part D.
BUT the authors do guarantee that you will understand:
-
- How to enroll
-
- How the star ratiings work
-
- How a drug list (formulary) is created
-
- What the Enrollee will pay out of pocket for their drug costs
Part D is a private health insurance product operated by large regional and/or nationwide corporations while being promoted and regulated by the Federal government.
Now that the reader has made it through “Medicare Boot Camp” it is time to wage war in pamphlet 5. Join us! Learn, Fight and Win.
